Every credible Metallographic result begins long before the microscope. Grain size measurement, weld inspection, coating evaluation and failure analysis all depend on a specimen surface free of deformation, scratches and pull-out — a level of consistency that manual preparation struggles to deliver.
Jinan Kason Testing Equipment Co., Ltd. designed the KSMopao3S double-disc grinding and polishing machine to close that gap. It consolidates pre-grinding, rough and fine grinding, and rough and fine polishing into a single controlled process, replacing a chain of separate machines.
The KSMopao3S runs on a 900 W drive with a double-disc, single-control architecture. Working plate speed is selectable from 50 to 1000 r/min stepless, or four fixed levels (400/600/800/1000 r/min), with forward and reverse rotation to suit different materials and consumables. The grinding and polishing head operates from 5 to 150 r/min and applies 5–60 N of load to six specimens at once, with preparation time programmable up to 3000 s. Sample diameter is φ30 mm as standard and customizable from φ22 to φ45 mm; φ230 mm and φ300 mm discs are available on request. A finely ground, surface-treated work disc ensures uniform material removal, while the integrally formed high-strength fiberglass housing resists corrosion and mechanical shock. An easy-to-control LCD screen keeps parameters visible and setup simple.
Typical applications cover specimen preparation to ASTM E3, macro and microscopic weld examination to ISO 17639, grain size determination to ASTM E112, inclusion rating to DIN 50602, and microhardness specimen preparation to ASTM E384. The machine serves material testing laboratories, automotive and aerospace component manufacturers, steel and foundry operations, research institutes and university materials departments.
